HNTB has a strong reputation for its traffic demand modeling and simulation. The Center of Excellence for this practice is located in Madison, Wisconsin, where we are actively growing our capacity to assess existing and future transportation system deficiencies and solutions.
The Center of Excellence provides services not only to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, but is an integral piece in the delivery of mega projects across the United States. We are looking for an energetic, multi-talented Transportation Planner or Engineer to support the growth of the Center of Excellence by providing experience in highway, transit and toll forecasting, operational analysis including meso and microscopic modeling, corridor planning, construction traffic management assessment.
This position will by providing expertise in highway operations, transit, tolling, traffic signals, roundabouts, etc., in a myriad of target markets.

| Responsibilities: |
|
This position will primarily focus on:
- Developing micro-simulation models appropriate to specific project needs, including Quadstone Paramics, VISSIM, CORSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, Rodel
- Estimating, calibrating and implementing travel demand models (highways, transit and/or rail) including TP+/Cube/Voyager, TransCAD and VISUM
- Preparing detailed signal timing and phasing plans for field implementation
- Conducting traffic analysis for traffic management plans including projecting and analyzing diversions, establishing and analyzing improvement concepts, and summarizing benefits and costs
- Communicating results in presentations and in writing
- Managing small projects and tasks within scope, budget and schedule

The ideal candidate will have experience:
- Independently identifying and analyzing transportation planning issues, including:
- Determining datasets required to bring forth the best answer
- Analyzing and presenting the study result
- Providing interpretation on feasibility of implementation or concerns around the result
- Writing technical reports and creating presentations of findings (samples will be required) that have been presented to a diverse group of clients and the public
- Providing quality control of traffic analyses, including demand, simulation and operations analysis
- Making field inspections and consulting with the affected parties
- Managing and overseeing the successful completion of small projects and/or tasks
- Building effective client relationships

| Qualifications: |
|
The successful candidate will:
- Have a BS in Civil Engineering or Planning
- Currently hold a Wisconsin PE, or be able to achieve within 6 months, OR currently hold or be able to achieve AICP certification in 6 months
- Ability to work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment with individual responsibilities for internal and customer deliverables and schedule
- Communication, analysis, and documentation skills are essential
- Experience with traffic forecasting, analysis and report production
