Duties and Responsibilities

The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for a faculty position of Environmental Studies Instructor, De Anza College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Under the direction of the Division Dean, instruct community college environmental studies/sciences courses to a diverse student population. The instructor will be expected to teach in two or more topic areas. Course topic areas are typical of lower division undergraduate work in environmental studies/sciences. Environmental studies/sciences subjects include introductory courses, energy management technology (including energy management systems and controls, building management systems, HVAC, lighting, electric power systems, the building envelope, sustainable building practices and renewable energy) and career technical program internships in the energy management field. Implement and evaluate curricula which should include integration of computers for instructional purposes in both the laboratory and lecture where appropriate.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on District and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

Secondary duties include activities such as student recruitment and advising; acting as liaison between the college and professional
and/or educational organizations, government agencies, and business and community advisory groups; and overseeing energy management student interns in field clinicals.

HIRING RANGE: $52,640-$86,454 annually plus benefits; actual placement is non-negotiable and is based on applicant's verified education and experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Tenure-track position, 10 months per year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
2. Any bachelor's degree and two years of experience, or any associate degree and six years of experience OR the equivalent.
3. Dual teaching abilities are required. Instructors would be expected to teach entry-level environmental studies/sciences courses and technical courses in energy management technology.
4. Ability to use techniques and equipment required in teaching subject areas in lecture and the laboratory or field settings. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's in Energy Management Technology, Renewable Energy or related energy field or Bachelor's in energy management technology, renewable energy or related energy field with two years of experience.
2. Recent teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level in energy management and related lecture and lab courses.
3. Evidence of developing innovative environmental studies/sciences curricula including energy management technology.
4. Teaching pedagogy adaptable to a variety of learning styles including an emphasis on interactive multimedia, Internet resources, and hands-on lab experiences in the energy field.
