The Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIF - http://gif.berkeley.edu) at UC Berkeley is seeking a full-time Staff Research Associate (SRA IV), with extensive GIS/Remote Sensing experience.
The GIF supports research and outreach activities of users interested in geospatial analysis utilizing GIS, GPS, spatial analysis, remote sensing, 3D visualization, and webGIS. We serve the geospatial needs of UC students, faculty, and staff. In addition, the GIF reaches out to K-12 youth groups and the general public.
The GIF GIS/RS Specialist will provide geospatial project support. This project works has an emphasis on Climate Change, and will require a thorough appreciation for the data available in this field.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the GIF Manager, the individual in this position will be responsible for:
1. Search for and Identify relevant project data
2. Communicate with data holders to establish relationships and acquisition of the most relevant data sources
3. Convert diverse array of data to standardized formats
4. Organize large spatial database, and communicate with other project members to ensure compatibility
5. Produce map outputs for reports and display & document methods used
Required Qualifications:
- BS/MS GeoSciences (or equivalent) - Experience with ESRI GIS software and applications (ArcGIS Desktop & Server) - Experience developing spatial databases with PostgreSQL/PostGIS - Experience with open-source GIS applications (GRASS, Spatial R) - Experience with remote sensing software (e.g. Erdas Imagine, eCognition, ENVI) - Experience working with Climate Change data
Salary & Benefits:
Annual salary of $45,984 to $72,540, commensurate upon experience and qualifications. Health, dental, and vision insurance, and retirement. Position open until filled.
