Geospatial Innovation Facility

Geo-Web Developer

Position is temporary (12 months)

The Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIF - http://gif.berkeley.edu) at UC Berkeley is seeking a full-time Application Programmer II (AP III), who has extensive experience developing complex, web-based, geospatial visualization tools.

The GIF supports research and outreach activities of users interested in geospatial analysis utilizing GIS, GPS, spatial analysis, remote sensing, 3D visualization, and webGIS. We serve the geospatial needs of UC students, faculty, and staff. In addition, the GIF reaches out to K-12 youth groups and the general public.

The GIF Geo-Web Developer will help to program tools and visualizations utilizing the latest web based mapping technologies.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the GIF Manager, the individual in this position will be responsible for:

1. Strategizing geo-web tool use and function
Work with team to come up with creative ways to display and interact with complex geographic data sets.

2. Develop/program custom software tools for use in geo-web environment
Custom design web-based geospatial visualization tools

3. Document methods
Document all methods used to create geo-web visualization tools for future maintenance and updates.

Required Qualifications:

- BS/MS Computer Science/Engineering or GeoSciences (or equivalent)
- In-depth knowledge and proven experience using related programming languages (Javascript, C++, Python, PHP, HTML, Apache) to develop geospatial tools
- Database management skills in postgres & postgis
- Proven Experience developing in geospatial web based platforms (Google Earth API, Google Maps API)
- Fluency with Geospatial data formats and standards (vector and raster)


Salary & Benefits:

Annual salary of $57,000 to $90,000, commensurate upon experience and qualifications.
