Environmental Planner

URS Corporation seeks an environmental planner/scientist/permitting specialist in its Franklin, Tennessee office to assist in a variety of electric utility, infrastructure, industrial, and transportation corridor projects throughout the southeastern U.S.

The qualified individual should have experience in and be responsible for interpreting and ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations; planning, directing and coordinating siting/permitting projects; and task management. Duties would include writing environmental analysis documents; conducting desktop and field studies; preparing environmental permit documents; producing GIS and relational database reports; participating in meetings and agency consultation; and client interaction.

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

• A Bachelors degree in planning, environmental policy, environmental studies/science, or closely related fields.

• At least five years of professionally relevant work experience writing NEPA environmental documents (EA or EIS) for public or private clients, preferably projects sited on or for TVA, Corps of Engineers, or TDOT, or similar federal or state agencies (graduate degree will count towards experience).

• Strong GIS and relational database capabilities.

• Good writing and speaking abilities are critical to this position. Microsoft Office software is required for writing documents, reviewing and analyzing data, and managing projects.

• Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team is necessary.

Job Description: This position will provide support in the preparation of NEPA documents including Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, and Environmental Impact Statements including cumulative impacts analyses. In addition, the position will require consultation and coordination with federal, state and local resource agencies, and county agencies, client and other URS staff.

This position requires an individual who has prior technical GIS work experience and is willing to perform various GIS Analyst duties as may be required to support project needs and/or meet billability goals.
