GIS Analyst

The GIS Analyst for the Planning, Design and Construction Division of the Houston Airport System is responsible for producing specialized airport maps, reports and analysis using ESRI and various other GIS database software. The GIS Analyst is also responsible for collecting, researching and evaluating source data prior to entering data into the Airport Spatial Information System (ASIS). Other duties include; developing and implementing data topology methods and procedures, converting data from one software platform to another, such as AutoCad to ESRI ArcGIS. Must be proficient in the use of ESRI ArcGIS version 9.3 or higher and its supporting applications, in working in user oriented databases and application programs for multiuser SDE-SQL server environment, and experienced in content delivery through a web portal development environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Performing these duties will involve: the ability to attend to details among distractions; adjust to interruptions and changes; adjust to critical and demanding work; write and speak clearly and effectively; apply specialized knowledge; analyze abstract information; deal with people in tense situations; work with minimum supervision; and operate city vehicles; be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds. Must be willing and available to work all shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays. Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearances.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science, Planning, Geography, Computer Science or a closely related field. Professional experience working with a comprehensive geographic information system may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

No experience required.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class C Texas driver's license and compliance with city's policy on driving (AP 2-2).


PREFERENCES:
Proficient in the use of AutoCad Map 3D version 2009 or higher. Proficient in using electronic survey equipment; such handheld GPS devices. Competent in translating/reducing survey notes from surveyor's field book and creating digital data. Knowledgeable in municipal and industrial utilities.
