Crime Analyst

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. 

This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation).

DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Police Department
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
LOCATION OF WORK:  4501 Elmore Road, Anchorage, AK 
 Example of Duties: The crime analyst, through statistical and analytical research, provides timely and relevant information on crime patterns and trends to assist operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities. This analysis includes research of law enforcement data, identification and interpretation of criminal activity, patterns, and trends; and forecasting trends. It also includes performing difficult statistical tasks such as random statistical samplings, correlation and regression analysis, probability studies and similar statistical methods and analysis. The crime analyst will also prepare graphic reports, written documents, and other representations of detailed and complex statistical findings. The crime analyst will detail finalized documents through verbal and written presentations to police personnel, community groups, various public forums and outside agencies.

Works independently conducting analysis of crime data through statistical and analytical research, preparing graphic reports and written documents to assist in planning crime suppression activates. Experience with Excel, SPSS, i2 Intel Suite, APSIN, Tiburon CAD and RMS. Telestaff, Crystal Reports and GIS, all manner of open source programs.
 Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Special Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in administration, statistics, project management, mathematics, analytical research, or a closely related field, and four years of applicable professional experience, two of which must have been in crime analysis.

Substitution:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and any combination of post-secondary education or progressively responsible experience in the appropriate field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

Progressively responsible specialized experience in the technical field or a related field appropriate to the position may substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree and the four years of professional experience on a year-for-year basis (total of eight years of progressively responsible experience).

Post graduate education in the field or a related field may substitute for the required non-specialized experience on a year-for-year basis.

Must possess a Current / Valid Drivers License
