TNC

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The GIS Assistant will work with the GIS Analyst in the Brunswick office on a wide variety of GIS and data management tasks in support of all departments of the Field Office.  Generally, tasks will include GIS data collecting, digitizing and attributing, analysis, map design and production.  Other duties may include web page editing and data documentation, and providingtechnical hardware and software support to other Field Office staff.

DUTIES

  • Producing datasets and map products for various conservation projects in Maine.
  • Assisting the Maine TNC stewardship department with map production for management plans.
  • Assisting the Maine Natural Resources Conservation Program with map production, proposal review, and the production and upload of GIS information into various systems.
  • Fulfilling map requests for fundraising, grant proposals, other outreach, and internal activities
  • Filling data requests from other TNC offices and external partners.
  • Assisting with aquatic connectivity prioritization GIS project.
  • Assisting with various watershed-based GIS analyses and the population of the Maine TNC Aquatics database.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS in Natural Resources or related field and 1 year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience using ArcGIS software family in a Conservation setting.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Maine geography, natural history, environmental science
  • Experience maintaining and populating databases and manual files.
  • Experience producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and using the Internet.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in Natural Resources or related field and 1-2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with GIS software, prefereably ArcGIS 10.0 or 10.1 – specifc experience using ArcMap for editing GIS datasets and map production, experience with Adobe Illustrator a plus
  • Must be able to read and interpret topographic maps, aerial photos, tax maps, surveys, and other sources of GIS information.
  • Performing administrative duties emphasizing detail-oriented and numerical tasks including data entry
  • Database and computer spatial or tabular based management skills including managing, maintaining and populating databases. 
  • Building, populating and producing reports from databases
  • Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources
  • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Access, Excel, Web browsers). 
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages

  • Position term is twelve weeks in duration.
