Environmental Planner

Minimum Requirements:    

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, physical science, environmental engineering, or a related degree program
• Knowledge of environmental compliance, sustainability, recycling, pollution prevention, community engagement and energy management
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Excellent writing, verbal communication, time management, organizational, and teamwork skills
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research and data collection
• Knowledge of a relevant specialization, such as transportation, sustainability, land use, environmental/physical science, cultural resource or affordable housing
• Analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply mathematic techniques in practical situations
• Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly to the public
• Ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulations and to apply regulations to field conditions
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
Job Description:     The Infrastructure & Environmental Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Professional for immediate employment in our Raleigh area office in Morrisville (Raleigh), North Carolina. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in environmental compliance. Responsibilities:
• Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans, programs and regulations
• Reviews or assists in the review of development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans and regulations
• Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodies
• Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, transportation tax base data and occupancy rates
• Assists in the implementation of community outreach programs Coordinates community review of public and private development projects
• Provides information to the public regarding development regulations
• Assists in resolving citizen and customer issues
• Under direct supervision, conducts field evaluations and assessments
• Assists in collecting field data; creating and populating databases; performing studies and analyses of data and compiling and writing associated reports; and or a variety of transportation planning and engineering projects.
• Responsible for creating high-quality work products in accordance with the URS Quality Management System (QMS)
