Transportation Planner

Minimum Requirements:    

• Master's degree in urban planning, transportation, civil engineering, public policy, or related area
• AICP certification preferred, may be attained within one year of employment
• Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in transportation and/or transit planning, with a lead role in the delivery of tasks and deliverables
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the editing, oversight or preparation of technical reports, and the presentation of information to government entities and various committees
• Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well- defined practical problems
• Proficient in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite tools, with some facility with GIS
• Group facilitation skills for use with client or community workshops
• Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment, as needed
• Ability to attend to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind
• Valid driver's license
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position may be required to pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Job Description:    

URS Corporation is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Transportation Planner for immediate employment in the Detroit office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in transportation and transit planning. The selected candidate can look forward to projects including transportation plans, strategic investment and prioritization plans, feasibility and concept studies, alternative analysis and environmental analysis projects, and other urban and regional planning projects.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Gather, manipulate, synthesize and present data, including socio-economic, transportation metrics, and other; analyze and propose interpretations and conclusions
• Prepare internal and client-facing documents and deliverables in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite and GIS, including written work products, charts and tables, and map graphics
• Produce high quality work products with minimal direction, using practices of detailed checking of work and quality control
• Research and apply developments in applicable local, state and federal public policy and industry best practices to project analysis and recommendations
• Participate in collaborative meetings and work sessions with clients, public agencies, and general public/stakeholders

Project Management
• May be a task manager or manage small segments of projects
• May assist in determining schedule and budget requirements
• Responsible for quality control of tasks or small segments of project produced, as well as products of technical and administrative staff assigned tasks by senior project professional
