Position Summary Information

Purpose    

The Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit Catholic institution, is seeking applications for a 6-course academic year adjunct lecturer. Courses will include two sections of Introduction to Geographic Information Systems in Fall quarter, one lecture section and two laboratory sections of Soil, Water, and Air in Winter quarter, and two sections of Introduction to Geographic Information Systems in Spring quarter. Combined, these lecture and lab sections equate to six courses.
Salary     $44,400 - $46,800 depending on teaching experience; benefits eligible. This salary range corresponds to a six-course teaching load. Position is contingent on funding.
Basic Qualifications    

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in earth science, oceanography, or a closely related field. Training and expertise with ArcGIS software (version 9.3 or higher) required. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching required. Santa Clara University does not sponsor any visa applications for this position. The successful candidate must be able to provide evidence of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities    

Faculty responsibilities include (1) teaching, (2) advising, and (3) service, as specified by the Santa Clara University Faculty Handbook (sec. 3.6). Duties for this particular position include but are not limited to teaching four sections of Introduction to Geographic Information Systems as well as one lecture and two laboratory sections of Soil, Water, and Air. This entails fulfilling all responsibilities associated with the assigned courses, including:

a. Conducting all assigned class meetings and individual conferences with students;
b. Assigning and evaluating student work including exams and written assignments;

c. Holding weekly office hours on campus;

d. Submitting student grades to the Registrar by the designated deadline;

e. Administering numerical and narrative course evaluations and any other evaluation requested by the chair or dean; and

f. Fulfilling other academic duties, such as attending faculty meetings or departmental
events, including those assigned by the Dean of the College or the Chair of the Department.
