GIS Technician

Description
This position will work directly with the Geographic Information System (GIS) Manager on several community outreach and real property projects. Workload will include 10% research, 25% information analysis, 50% data entry and editing in a geo-spatial environment, and 15% development of presentation materials. Candidate must provide documentation, such as a portfolio, of their work experience.

Primary responsibilities include:
1. Researching record drawings, historical drawings, and public property records;
2. Analyzing real property records, including deeds, land surveys, plats and other land record documents to determine property boundaries;
3. Performing complex geometric calculations to determine configuration and area of real property;
4. Creating and maintaining GIS project mapping, and populating associated attributes and tabular data;
5. Ensuring data is compliant to the Spatial Data Standards for Infrastructure and Environment
(SDSFIE) 3.0; and
6. Performing real-time quality control of data while entering information into project databases.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in GIS or related field.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience working in GIS.
Special Requirements/Certifications
Position requires analytical and problem solving skills, and proficiency with database management and queries. Documentation, organization and communication skills, attention to detail and quality, customer service skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are essential.

Candidate must possess:
• Working knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques used in researching, delineating, mapping, and documenting of real property;
• Established skills and experience in GIS and applications (Esri ArcGIS), including file management, and data compilation and editing procedures;
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations and computations of real property;
• Ability to prepare detailed reports and records, and presentation-ready illustrations or diagrams;
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical and legal documents, statutes and regulations, including survey notes and legal descriptions; and
• Skill in research of land surveys, real estate documents, and other land records;
• Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands; ability to operate a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software; and
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, and Skill Sets:
• Working knowledge of the Spatial Data Standard for Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE) 3.0.
• Ability to perform data validation routines and develop metadata according to FDGC standards.
