Economic Development Specialist

This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of economic development and redevelopment projects, programs and initiatives that attract new capital investments, broaden the City's economic base and create quality jobs for the community.  Additionally, this position provides professional-level support to other department staff in the management and implementation of mixed-use, commercial, office, residential, industrial, and transit-oriented development projects and other economic development or redevelopment initiatives. Duties include managing and monitoring contracts; tracking and reporting performance metrics; monitoring budgets; developing written and statistical reports to summarize activity; conducting solicitations for consultant and developer proposals; providing research and analysis; and coordinating with local businesses, government entities, property owners, development representatives and the media. The incumbent will work in collaboration with internal staff and external customers, and should possess knowledge of Phoenix ordinances, codes, policies and development processes. Currently, there is one vacancy in the Community and Economic Development Department, with a focus on central city redevelopment, transit-oriented development and other strategic revitalization initiatives.

RECRUITMENT DATES

SALARY

$49,338 - $73,653 annually.  Appointment can be made above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of professional level experience in economic development, real estate development, contract management or business assistance.
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, urban planning, economics, communication, journalism, political science or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and education may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The job requirements listed above, plus:

  • Experience in the following areas:
    • Writing executive level reports and correspondence.
    • Preparing and conducting solicitations for consultant and developer proposals.
    • Developing and managing consultant contracts and development agreements.
    • Collaborating with multiple stakeholders on development projects or initiatives.
    • Facilitating transit-oriented development and redevelopment projects or initiatives.
