Director of Economic Development

The Economic Development Director will plan, market and direct the business recruitment, retention, and expansion programs for the City of Grapevine.  Identifying quality business prospects and creating and executing successful marketing campaigns to attract those businesses to Grapevine will be a top priority.

The Director should have proven experience in maintaining positive relationships with developers, brokers and other business professionals in order to encourage business expansion consistent with the City's mission and vision. 
 Nature & Scope:
The ideal candidate will have vast experience in managing and participating in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for the economic development program and be able to recommend new and existing business development and expansion strategies, policies and procedures for the City.

The new director must be able to make informed decisions on the expenditures of funds, prioritzation of prospects and be able to conduct surveys, collect data and research economic and demographic trends and infrastructures needs in order to effectively promote the economic opportunities available in Grapevine.

As the technical advisor in development issues to the City Council and other committees, it will be important for the new Director to stay well-informed on emerging trends and innovations in the economic development field.  Establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with professional consultants and outside agencies including the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, Tarrant County, Tarrant County College District and local school districts is vital.

The new Economic Director will serve as a liaison between new businesses and City departments to assist with required permitting, utility service arrangements, building and fire codes and zoning and occupancy issues.

 
 Required Skills:
The chosen candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in economic development, public or business administration, marketing, economics or closely related field and a minimum of five years of progressive experience in economic development or similar field. 

Equivalent work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels may be considered as a substitution for the education and experience requirements.
 
The new Economic Development Director should have broad knowledge of federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations relating to general governmental management and economic development.  Expertise in the use of market research methodologies and a comprehensive understanding of local and state real estate and economic development principles and practices is highly desired.

The selected candidate should have experience in staff training and development, mentoring, coaching and conducting performance evaluations.  Proficiency in preparation and administration of budgets, financial reports, capital improvement plans and economic forecasting is expected.

A valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy is required. Applicant must pass a federal/national criminal history check and credit history check
