College of William and MaryGIS AnalystJob Description The College of William & Mary seeks applicants for the position of GIS Analyst in the Institute for the Theory and Practice of International Relations (ITPIR). The GIS Analyst will be responsible for helping AidData identify the strategies and processes needed to support its existing project-level database into a geographically-anchored database to help facilitate the geospatial demands and requests of AidData's Research Consortium, a network of 100 faculty members across 50 universities. The GIS Analyst will work primarily with the Senior Geospatial Scientist and the Database Manager, as well as with a larger team of project managers, technical analysts, and geospatial computer programmers at the College of William and Mary and Development Gateway, an international non-profit institution in Washington D.C. that builds information technology solutions to make aid and development efforts more effective. This is a restricted position and continued employment is dependent on future funding.
Minimum Qualifications â?¢Undergraduate or graduate degree in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field or commensurate professional experience (3+ yrs) â?¢Computer programming experience, using R, SQL, Python, Perl, and/or shell â?¢Relational database management experience, using PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite â?¢Geographic information systems and remote sensing experience, such as ArcGIS, Idrisi Taiga, and or Erdas Imagine â?¢Experience designing geospatial research projects/programs â?¢Experience with open source mapping tools â?¢Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced dynamic environment. â?¢Proven ability to manage a broad and unpredictable workload and meet deadlines and work under own initiative. â?¢Excellent (written and verbal) communication and client interaction skills. â?¢Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook â?¢Excellent analytical and presentation skills â?¢Fluency in English
Preferred Qualifications â?¢Familiarity with Version Control systems and software (e.g. GitHub, SVN); â?¢One or more Javascript mapping application frameworks (e.g. Leaflet, Openlayers); â?¢Familiarity with server-side geospatial software and techniques; â?¢Familiarity with Postgres, PostGIS and/or MongoDB; â?¢Familiarity with OGC standards; â?¢Strong knowledge of open data standards â?¢Familiarity with International Aid Finance data standards and terminology.
