GIS Analyst

Job Summary    

The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Data Analyst is embedded within EGI Technology Team, but serves as a liaison between our technology team and the underlying Science teams and GIS project support staff. The GIS Data Analyst supports and provides leadership, technical competency, analytical and business consulting to the other team members as well as the users of a new proprietary big-data platform being rolled out for the Oil & Gas industry. Independently leads projects (requirements, design, development, implementation, and training) in an efficient and effective manner to provide value and achieve established objectives within budgetary, policy, regulatory, and legal constraints.

This position requires a balance of technical acumen and business understanding as the role creates new datasets and enhances workflows building on our GIS applications, websites, and datasets. The role demands a high attention to detail and creative problem solving.

Duties may include: administering and troubleshooting our global offshore data system, writing custom queries and reports using SQL, automating GIS workflows using FME, Python or other scripting languages, maintaining/updating our ArcGIS server websites, gathering data from partner data platforms and from public domain, working on system / data projects, loading and managing GIS data layers and datasets in SDE, and routinely working with relational database models to generate ever changing information needs.
Responsibilities    

• Supporting the EGI GIS mapping group, maintaining our systems, processes, and datasets
• Working with Quality Assurance Specialist to troubleshoot the more technical issues with our systems and processes
• Working with EGI Corporate Associate partners to identify value adding opportunities to utilize GIS solutions
• Providing guidance and leadership in developing of GIS applications and best practices
• May develop databases, application programs, and manage projects2. Compiles data from a variety of sources.
• May provide training/workshop facilitation on GIS software and implementation for students, faculty, and business partners.
• Validate accuracy of data, and updates databases accordingly.
• Obtains and analyzes GIS data from a variety of sources (both public domain and from vendor partners)
• Produces data that is sufficiently cross platform compatible.
• Assists in the planning, research, development, and preparation of projects, exhibits, online modules, manuscripts and presentation materials of GIS analyses.
• Drafts correspondence to answer inquiries and respond to requests about the projects.
• Researching and resolving inquiries and requests for spatial information
• Coordinating/supporting GIS projects with product customers
• Assessing and adjusting to changing priorities
• Researching spatial and attribute data issues for GIS applications and requests
• Documenting our processes, procedures, applications
• Cultivating an environment of trust, cooperation and teamwork

Minimum Qualifications    

Bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, or related field or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Minimum three years of experience in a related area required.

Preferences    

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography or Management Information Systems (MIS), Masters Degree Preferred.
• Proficient in ArcGIS (ArcEditor/ArcInfo), ArcGIS for Server Data Management, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft SharePoint.
• 3+ years’ of SDE data management experience
• 1+ years’ oil and gas experience
• Experience working with ArcServer, doing website configuration and customization (JavaScript)
• Project experience working with data conversion, migration, and analysis
• Leadership ability
• Strong analytical & problem solving skills
• Self-starter and results oriented
• Excellent interpersonal skills/team player
• Strong oral & written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize responsibilities
• GIS Certificate
• Experience working in ArcSDE data storage environment.
• Experience working with GIS scripting and process automation tools such as FME, Python, or the ArcGIS Model Builder.
