The Geomatics Program at Nicholls State University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate beginning immediately. The primary focus of this position will be development of aerial robotics capability for facility inspection of offshore platforms. A specific focus will be use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to access operating environments and safely inspect equipment such as flares, sub decks, pipes, tanks and other vessels in Upstream and Downstream operating facilities. The post-doctoral research associate will perform research and development of the technology, techniques, and procedures to understand how Aerial Robotics solutions may be applied to support inspection practices in an offshore oil and gas production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico as well as explore the potential techniques and benefits to catalog, store and process data spatially and temporally. In addition the research associate will be required to work on other related projects undertaken by the Geospatial Technology Center. The position is guaranteed funding for a year with possibility of renewal depending on availability of funds. There is a possibility for teaching.
The salary range is dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the candidate. Minimum Experience Required: Doctoral degree in Geomatics, Geosensing engineering, Computer Science, Geoscience, Geography or closely related field. Demonstrated proficiency in using ERDAS IMAGINE, SOCET SE GXP, ESRI ArcGIS, and Trimble Business Center software packages. Minimum Education Required: Ph.D. Preferred Experience: A minimum of two years experience in the application and use of Geospatial technologies such as Digital Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Image Processing, GIS, and GPS. Knowledge of Laser Scanning and 3D modeling is desired. Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population having a wide range of technical experience levels. **The chosen candidate should be willing to work in offshore environment.**
