Economist - Transportation Planner

Additional Salary Information:We are hiring 2 positions “Band 5” ($41,545 - depending on qualifications) “Band 6 ($49, 855 depending on qualifications)

Special Information:

This position is part of a career ladder and placement will be at the salary level noted above. The full salary range of the Transportation Planner career ladder is $41,545 - $49,855. The ability to move within the career ladder is based on MDT advancement policy 4-0104, and state classification policies. This position occasionally requires overnight travel.

We are hiring two positions:
Economist Modeler Emphasis, Band 5: This position is responsible for assisting in the planning functions of the Rail, Air Quality, and Studies Section. This includes performing routine economic modeling, compiling data, and drafting initial reports. Other duties include assisting with program management of planning processes, such as applying for and administering grants and legislatively directed funds, and assisting with division publications. This position reports to the Rail, Air Quality and Studies supervisor.  Band 5 ($41,545.00).Economist Modeler Emphasis, Band 6: This position is responsible for developing and analyzing complex economic models to provide recommendations for ensuring statutory compliance and optimum use of funding. The incumbent leads efforts to ensure that economic issues are considered in the department’s planning and programming processes. Duties include research, analysis, and modeling functions; providing consultation and technical assistance with planning issues; administering the daily operations of various computer modeling systems; and performing a variety of other duties as assigned. This position may act as a lead worker on individual projects, and reports to the Rail, Air Quality and Studies supervisor.  Band 6 ($49,855.00) 

 

Competencies:

These positions require knowledge of the theories, principles, methods, and techniques of economics, transportation planning, associated mathematical and statistical analysis, and computer systems. Also essential is knowledge of research methods, project management, program management and data management. Skills are required in the following areas: written and verbal communication; research, economics and transportation system analysis; public involvement strategies; and computer software applications used for data management and analysis, modeling, word processing, spreadsheets, publications, GIS/mapping and presentations.

Education/Experience:

Band 5 Minimum Qualifications: Preferred is a (4) four year degree in Economics, Transportation Planning, Statistics or Mathematics. Acceptable: BA/BS in the following areas: Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Project Management, Business, Public Administration, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or Resource Management. No other training or experience required. Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
