Rice UniversityResearch Programmer (GIS/SAS)Position Summary The Research Programmer (GIS/SAS) performs geographic information system (GIS), database management, computer programming (using SAS) and data analysis work in support of research projects pertaining to demographic, socioeconomic, and real estate characteristics and change. This position oversees the input and manipulation of geographic information used to create, maintain, display and produce accurate maps, tables and other representations of data. This position plans, develops, maintains and monitors integrated database systems and evaluates and implements database policies and procedures to maintain data integrity.
Education Required Master's Degree Geography, demography, sociology, IT, engineering, GIS or related field. May substitute additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis in lieu of the education requirement (must have at least a bachelor's degree).
Experience Required 3 years Experience using SAS and Geographic Information System (GIS) software such as ArcInfo, MapInfo, or Maptitude. Education may not be substituted for the experience requirement. License/Certification Required Other Skills Required - Advanced skills in GIS -Strong SAS data step skills. -Ability to write technical documents and research reports - The ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced multitasking environment. - Advanced analytical and statistical skills. - Ability to work alone or as part of a project team. Education Preferred Experience Preferred 5 or more years in statistical programming (especially SAS) or GIS.
