Junior Transportation Planner

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, transportation, civil engineering, public policy, or related area of study
• Minimum three years of related experience
• Knowledge and/or interest in bicycle and pedestrian transportation planning & behavior
• Strong data analysis skills
• Strong writing skills
• Ability to start by providing assistance to larger efforts, and grow into overseeing projects with progressive increases in responsibility
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Job Description: We are seeking a junior-level Transportation Planner to work within the Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority (VTA)’s Transportation Planning group. The successful candidate will:

• Assist in developing memos, report chapters, presentations, and other materials related to bicycle and pedestrian planning efforts
• Assist with organizing and running meetings, workshops, etc.
• Use GIS for analysis and map making
• Develop maps, graphics, and images to support planning efforts
• Assist with grant writing
• Conduct research to support bicycle and pedestrian, and other, planning efforts
• Conduct field work and attend public meetings
• Update and maintain bicycle/pedestrian website
• Develop knowledge and expertise in the bicycle and pedestrian field through webinars, journal articles, and conversations with experts in the field
• Participation in VTA’s Congestion Management Program (CMP)

Participation is expected in most or all of these VTA programs:

• Complete Streets Program
• Bike Share Program
• Pedestrian Access to Transit Plan
• Countywide Bike Plan Update
• El Camino Real Precise Plan/First-Last Mile Plan for Santa Clara
• Bicycle Expenditure Program Updates
• Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) Coordination
• Bicycle and Pedestrian Data Needs
• Internal Project Coordination
• External Coordination/Outreach
• Grant writing
• Bike Map Update
• GIS/Technology Program
• CMP activities
• Other programs, projects and duties as assigned
