City of RoanokeCity Planner II (Historic Preservation Planner)The City of Roanoke is recruiting to fill a City Planner II position with focus on historic preservation. The position is responsible for all preservation activities, including providing staff support to the Architectural Review Board, evaluating and approving projects eligible for administrative review, on-site consulting with citizens and contractors on projects, leading preservation planning and implementation projects, managing survey and nomination projects, and inspecting projects to ensure compliance with approved Certificates of Appropriateness. While preservation is the focus of this position, other general duties of a City Planner II may also be assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in preservation, planning, architecture, or related field; Master’s degree in related field is preferred, but not required; Three to five years related experience in an urban community; familiarity with urban design principles and historic preservation; or equivalent combination of education and experience;. AICP certification, if not already obtained, is expected within one year of employment or as soon as eligible to sit for the examination.
