Rice UniversityResearch AnalystPosition Summary The Hobby Center for the Study of Texas is seeking a researcher to assist in the completion of research relative to housing and related change in the Houston area. The Research Analyst will conduct research under the direction of the Principal Investigator and will write reports, articles, and other publications related to the analyses. In addition, the Research Analyst will be responsible for collecting, managing, and analyzing data using GIS, SAS, and other tools. The Research Analyst may manage research projects as needed.
Education Required Master's Degree Geography, sociology, economics, planning, political science or other social science or public policy related fields.
Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.
Relevant work experience in demographic and housing related research.

License/Certification Required Other Skills Required - Applicant must have established computer and other computational skills. - Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, including Excel and Word. - Must show proof of his/her ability to write analytical reports, multi-person and multidisciplinary teams. - Must demonstrate experience in locating and using public and private service data. - Must demonstrate ability to conduct interviews. - Experience using SAS. Education Preferred Master's or higher level with extensive applied and professional publication record in demographic and public service analyses. Experience Preferred Three years of experience in the analyses of demographic and/or housing related change. License/Certification Preferred Other Skills Preferred - Advanced Excel - Ability to use Stata - Ability to use ArcGIS, Maptitude or other GIS software - Familiarity with real estate development Physical Demands May be required to work in front of a computer for extended periods of up to 8 hours a day. Must be able to travel within Houston area to attend meetings. Working Conditions (e.g. Weekend/evening work, travel, inclement weather, hazards) May be required to travel for conferences (one to two times per year). May be required to work extended hours, work early in the morning, late in the evening or on the weekends to meet project deadlines.
