The John A. Dutton e-Education Institute and the Department of Geography at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park campus) invites applications for a full time faculty position (non-tenure track) to teach and advise students for Penn State’s online educational programs in Geographic Information Systems. This is a one-year fixed-term appointment with excellent possibility of re-funding. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. You will be expected to teach online classes in geographic information systems/science, advise and mentor graduate students, provide curricular leadership, and participate in externally funded GIScience research. Additional opportunities for a successful applicant may include working with private and public sector partners on professional education projects. Teaching responsibilities will be with Penn State’s online Master of GIS and Certificate in GIS programs, with opportunity to teach in other Penn State programs based on interest and expertise.

This position is located at the University Park campus and will be appointed to the John A. Dutton e-Education Institute. Requirements include a Doctorate in Geography, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline, and the ability to demonstrate recent research activity to satisfy Penn State requirements for attaining Form B Graduate Faculty status. Experience in providing online geospatial education is desirable. We currently offer more than 30 online courses in a wide range of topic areas, and teaching responsibilities will vary depending on interest and expertise. Major focus areas for our online programs include geospatial software development, remote sensing and image analysis, spatial analysis, geospatial intelligence, and application areas in Energy, Water Resources, and Business. Application review will begin July 31, 2014 and continue until the position is filled. Please upload your cover letter and curriculum vitae, including names and contact information of three references.
