Houston-Galveston Area CouncilRegional PlannerSummary of Position: Responsible for one or more elements of the H-GAC regional planning programs, including solid waste management, disaster mitigation, habitat protection, low impact development and urban forestry, to include various other projects as assigned.
Examples of Work:
- Provides staff support for committees and training workshops, which includes communication with stakeholders.
- Collects and analyzes geographic, demographic and environmental data; researches policies, regulations and best management practices.
- Prepares reports, briefing papers, plan documents, and presentation materials.
- Prepare and review proposals and grant applications.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, with emphasis in urban/regional planning or environmental planning. Relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
- Familiarity with regional environmental planning issues, regulations, and programs.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and perform tasks with limited supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively on a team and with a wide range of individuals and groups.
- Ability to plan and effectively manage complex, long-term projects.
- Proficient in basic office software (word process, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations); experience with GIS and/or graphics software preferred.
