CAD/GIS Data Technician

Job Summary The CAD/GIS Data Technician provides a full range of data and documentation control for the CAD/GIS department within Facilities Operations. Primary functions include large scale collection, review, organization and archiving of Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings, plans, maps, specifications, warranties and manuals. Provides general site and building field surveying for integration into the campus Geographic Information System (GIS). Provides limited apprentice-level technical support for GIS and CAD systems, involving geographic coordination and special tool functions. Coordinates with Information Technology (IT) regarding the integration of data into Facilities Operation’s mobile document access system and Facilities technology management systems. Evaluates and generates reports. Provides technical and administrative support to the campus community and other agencies regarding the coordination and implementation of facilities related data. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving the study, analysis, evaluation, development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices or programs. Working knowledge of the general practices, program or administrative specialty. Basic knowledge of and the ability to apply fundamental concepts. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Ability to learn, interpret and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures relating to and impacting the applicable program, organizational unit or administrative specialty. Knowledge of and the ability to apply basic methods and procedures used for research and statistical analysis. Ability to analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques. Ability to make independent decisions, exercise sound judgment, handle multiple priorities and organize and plan work assignments. Ability to compile, write and present reports related to program or administrative specialty. Demonstrated ability establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Experience with data collection. Ability to work with diverse personalities and skillsets. Ability to work with computer operation systems. Ability to learn to develop building system and construction documents. Ability to organize, store, archive and gather CAD and/or GIS data.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in geography, information technology, engineering or other related field. Basic understanding of CAD and/or GIS computer operating systems. Certification in CAD and/or GIS systems. General knowledge of building system and construction documents. Experienced in GIS field surveying and/or CAD building surveying.
License/ Certification Valid California Driver's License required.
Special Working Conditions This position requires working in indoor and outdoor environments, involving summer climate conditions.

This position requires the use of an electric cart for transportation.

This position may need the use of a step ladders to review building equipment and system.

Multiple positions may be hired from this recruitment based on the strength of the applicant pool.
