Java/GIS Developer

SAIC has a need for a Java software developer with at least three years of experience in developing and designing Java applications. The program provides research and technical solutions, expert analysis, and highly trained emergency response professionals to support the federal government's response to an accident or act of terrorism involving radiological, chemical, or biological material.

- The program also consists of a software development team of 4-8 team members who develop tools used by response analysts to help assess and manage these events.
- The software developer and tester will:

- Gather requirements, design, develop and test high-reliability Java applications, and provide end user support for a number of applications used.
- Design and maintain applications to use GIS data for analysis and reporting including impact of nuclear events and impacts to surrounding area.
- Manage software application code using version control and problem tracking software expediently and accurately
- Work effectively in an agile software development environment
- Interact closely with customers
- Development activities to be done in compliance with application development, database and middleware guidelines and standards

Required Skills

- Minimum of 3 years’ experience developing Java programs for business or technical applications including Java Swing
- Understanding of developing Java to work with Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- GUI design using Java Swing
- XML & XSLT Experience creating Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Documents using Office Open XML format, specifically using Apache POI.
- Mathematics Background
- C#
- Possession (or have the ability to obtain) a DOE L clearance. Can start uncleared but must be able to start clearance process upon acceptance.

Desired Skills

- Familiarity with Team Foundation Services (TFS) for version control of code
- Familiarity with the Eclipse IDE for Java development
- Familiarity with Visual Studio for C# & Web DesignAdherence to the project plans and database and middleware group guidelines and standards
