Faculty Position in Geography

The Department of Global Studies & Geography at Hofstra University invites applications from broadly trained human geographers with expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for an anticipated tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall 2015. Ideally the candidate will have expertise in the use of spatial data and methods to analyze comparative public policy problems such as those related to health, demography, migration, urbanization, economic development, transportation and logistics. The candidate will create a new graduate program in GIS and develop new courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level. We expect the candidate to foster collaborative linkages with faculty and students in other schools, such as Engineering, Health Sciences and Medicine. The candidate should also involve students in research projects, fieldwork, and data analysis, and mentor students for careers in the GIS profession. They are also expected to advise students, serve on committees, participate in professional conferences, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and seek external grants. The normal teaching load at Hofstra is 3 classes per semester. The Department currently has around 200 UG majors and minors.

Evidence is required of a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. It is expected that the candidate will have a PhD in geography or
related discipline by the time of appointment. More information about the Department can be found on our website at: www.hofstra.edu/geography.

To be considered, send a letter of interest, vita, statement of teaching and research interests, and the names and contact information of three references to:
gsgeog@hofstra.edu or mail to Dr. Jean-Paul Rodrigue, Chair of the Search Committee, Department of Global Studies and Geography, 130 Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York, 11549.

Review of applications will begin in December 2014 and will continue until the position is filled. Additional information about the position can be obtained by contacting Jean-Paul.Rodrigue@hofstra.edu.
