City of GreensboroPlannerPrimary job function and duties: This professional level position is responsible for the administration of the Land Development Ordinance and other City adopted policies and ordinances as part of a multi-department team in the Development Services area and as part of the Technical Review Committee. Primary duties in this position include the review of development applications / permits related to relevant zoning, site and land use information, including site or use specific standards; communication of applicable requirements after review is complete and offer alternatives for compliance which includes making minor interpretations of the ordinance to ensure the legislative intent is upheld while balancing current development practices and accepted planning principles; and provide zoning information to developers, land owners, City staff and residents related to planning and development inquiries in a customer service capacity. The employee in this position will be a primary point of contact for parties interested in investing in the city and requires a strong emphasis on customer service, a high level of detail, independent judgment and initiative, also strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. An AICP certification will be required within one year of hire date. This position will require some work beyond the typical work day to complete time sensitive development applications / permits, provide enhanced customer service and may require attendance at evening meetings. This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in planning, public administration, or related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience issuing permits or confirming compliance with local codes and ordinances (Must indicate on application)
- Experience working with Microsoft Office, and ARC GIS (Must indicate on application)
- Valid Driver’s License
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- Current AICP
- Master’s Degree with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience related in zoning, public administration or related fields.
- knowledge of local government development application / permit processes (Must indicate on application)
