Summary of Duties

Teaches introductory and upper division courses in geography and possibly other fields; mentors professional development of students; and helps to grow UVU’s geography and earth science programs. Creates a learning environment and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. Supports and seeks to fulfill the guiding concepts for the university which are embodied in UVU’s Mission.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Preferred Qualifications

OREM, UTAH. The Department of Earth Science at Utah Valley University (UVU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Geography, to begin August 2015. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in geography or a closely related field, expertise in human geography, and a demonstrated commitment and excellence in teaching. A background in an area of human geography related to natural science, such as sustainability, climate change, natural hazards, environmental justice, anthropogenic impacts on the environment, etc. is a plus, as is experience with GIS. Responsibilities will include teaching introductory courses (e.g., World Regional and Human Geography) and upper division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, as well as engaging in some combination of research, supervision of undergraduate research, activity in professional organizations, continuing education and service.

Knowledge

Advanced knowledge of subject matter and course content of the courses to be taught which may include courses emphasizing both theory and practice.
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses.
Demonstrated knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.
Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in education, engaged learning and service learning, learning technologies (e.g. digital technologies for classroom management and distance education), public presentation, outcomes measurement and grant writing.
