Position Summary The Division of Humanities & Social Sciences at Governors State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Non-Western Geography. We seek a committed teacher and promising scholar with a primary emphasis in any area of Non-Western Geography, and secondary emphasis in any of the following: Human Geography, North American Geography, Physical Geography, or World Geography. The ideal candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in geography as part of the university's baccalaureate program in Social Sciences. Ability to contribute to the university's Environmental Studies program, Global Studies program, or other relevant areas of study is preferred; ability to teach GIS courses is preferred but not required. GSU instructors may be required to teach nights, weekends, at off-campus locations, or online. All GSU tenure-track faculty members are expected to advise students, maintain a viable record of scholarship, provide meaningful service to the university and community, and facilitate the intellectual flourishing of the university's diverse student population. Finalists for this position will be fluent in the English language, communicate well, demonstrate clear potential for teaching excellence, and show experience with pedagogical approaches that are inquiry-based and student-centered. A terminal degree in Geography or other relevant discipline is required prior to appointment.
