This position will join the School of Agriculture, Forest, and Environmental Sciences (SAFES) at Clemson University. The primary responsibility of the GIS Analyst is to develop and maintain geospatial datasets in support of agriculture- and natural resources-based economic development in the state of South Carolina. The GIS Analyst will create datasets from tabular data, derive datasets based on geospatial analysis tools, and coordinate with third-party data providers to gain access to relevant data. The GIS Analyst will work closely with university faculty members, software developers, and administrators to meet data analysis objectives.
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
GIS ANALYSIS Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of expert-level GIS analysis using various spatial and tabular data sources representing agricultural and natural resource production and potential. E/50%
PROJECTS Responsible for support of spatial data archiving, documentation and development for projects at Clemson E/25%
COLLABORATION Collaborate with the Research & Education Center Directors to develop a GIS-based REC land management system. Responsibilities include: Designing, development, implementation, and maintenance of GIS databases. Manages GIS projects effectively to conform with budget and schedule constraints. Development and adherence to quality assurance and quality control standards. Coordination and collaboration with natural resources and economist faculty at Clemson University and South Carolina agricultural departments and organizations. E/25%
QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree in geography or a related field and work experience in the development and maintenance of geographic information systems; or an associate degree in geography or a related field and expert-level work experience in the development and maintenance of geographic information systems.
PREFERRED IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate degree (agriculture related, natural resources, or equivalent) and experience or a bachelors degree with significant related experience is required.
Background in Agriculture and Natural Resource production/economics. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders PAY & WORK SCHEDULE: Standard Hrs: 37.5; Band: 06 ($ 38,703.00 - $ 50,000.00) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Expert proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop software. Strong GIS vector/raster analysis and model building skills; Spatial database design and development experience; Python software development for GIS automation and custom geoprocessing; Experience publishing maps and related content via web-based GIS portals (e.g., ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Portal); Statistical analysis background, including geostatistical techniques (e.g., Kriging, Kernel Density); JavaScript web programming; ArcGIS Server administration; Enterprise geodatabase administration (Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server);Image classification and analysis. ArcGIS Server publishing (e.g., Map, Feature, and Geoprocessing services)
