Emergency Preparedness Specialist

The North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking a dynamic, goal-driven applicant to fill a full time position as an Emergency Preparedness Specialist.  This position provides direct support to the Department of Emergency Preparedness. The person filling this position will provide project support and program management primarily as a regional liaison with the Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere (CASA WX) project, coordinating technological projects, regional planning, and project management related to emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation.

The purpose of this position is to support department functions through project development and implementation. This is accomplished through project planning, process and task analysis, facilitation of public/private partnerships, budget management, meeting coordination and leadership, development of program reports and correspondence, and professional communications with stakeholders. Successful candidate will also work in research, grant management, website maintenance, data management, and will provide other professional support to the Emergency Preparedness Department and its related committees as needed.


Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public administration or other related field of study
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of Publisher and Access a plus.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present to staff and outside clients/officials
  • Excellent customer service and presentation skills
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, ability to multi-task
  • Disciplined self-starter who thrives in a team oriented environment

 

Required Experience

  • Project planning and implementation
  • Public/private partnerships
  • Negotiation and contract management
  • Internet research
  • College course emphasis or work experience in the field of emergency preparedness and/or mitigation is highly desired
  • Completion of basic Incident Command System (ICS) courses is desired but not required
  • GIS knowledge is desired but not required
  • A minimum of a year of professional work related experience in emergency management, public administration, or in a job related field, to include professional planning experience.
