DEPARTMENT: MS GIS Program, Urban and Regional Planning/Environmental Design AVAILABLE: January 1, 2015 POSTING DATE: October 3, 2014 APPLICATION DEADLINE: Open Until Filled DESCRIPTION: The University of Redlands seeks a Visiting Professor (Open-Rank) for an annually renewable visiting faculty position in Urban Geography or Urban/Regional Planning. As a member of the MS GIS Program faculty, the successful candidate will have four initial objectives: Create and teach Geodesign and Urban and Regional Planning courses within the MS GIS Program; modify existing MS GIS curricula to support a Geodesign team approach for students’ thesis projects; teach introductory Geodesign and spatial literacy courses as part of the Minor in Spatial Studies; and collaborate in Geodesign and Urban and Regional Planning projects undertaken by the University of Redlands spatial community. This position has a three-year term, renewable each year based on satisfactory performance. Extension beyond the initial three-year term is dependent on several factors, including the success of the Urban and Regional Planning/Environmental Design program and the availability of funding.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or terminal master’s in urban and regional planning, urban geography, environmental planning, environmental design, or closely related field is required. The candidate must be proficient in using GIS and related technologies for planning and design projects, and have demonstrated proficiency in using GIS technology for project-based learning with undergraduate and graduate students.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have experience in design and studio teaching methods at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Experience with Geodesign planning methodologies and software is highly desirable. The candidate should be an entrepreneur who has a genuine interest in working with diverse stakeholders to create a highly visible and successful academic program in Urban and Regional Planning/ Environmental Design.
