GIS Developer

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in geography, planning, engineering, computer science or related field.
• Minimum 12 years of experience working with GIS or Web-Based Database applications
• Master's degree in relevant discipline can substitute for up to two years of work experience.
• Or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
• Experience with Web Mapping applications and GIS workflows
• Experience with ARC GIS
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Job Description: The Engineering and Operations & Maintenance group of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented GIS Developer for immediate employment in the Houston, Texas office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in GIS and Web-based Mapping Applications specific to the Pipeline Industry. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting challenging projects including large diameter, cross-country pipeline projects.

Responsibilities:
• Serves as a technical expert for the GIS team / section / office.
• Responsible for the planning, organizing, controlling, reporting and leading.
• Develops operating and growth plans, including staffing.
• Determines workload for their team, including short-, medium- and long-term business goals and objectives.
• Maintains effective communication within the team and with clients.
• Plans, coordinates, develops, and monitors GIS projects to completion.
• Works with multiple teams to pursue, manage and deliver projects.
• Establishes, promotes, and ensures quality on all projects and work performance.
• Identifies when project requirements exceed available technical skills or manpower capacity and develops plan of action with next level management to seek help from other work units, hire new staff, and/or subcontract work, etc.
