Since 1974, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking a Transportation Planner in the Sustainable Development Program. This position will assist in conducting activities related to school siting research; multi-modal safety; outreach efforts and meetings; planning studies; demographic, market, land-use and transportation analysis; multi-modal corridor studies; land-use redevelopment projects; and visualization. This posting is for the entry-level Transportation Planner I position, and applicants wishing to be considered for this position should apply online at https://mycogcareer.silkroad.com/. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assisting with land use-transportation planning activities related to school siting, including demographic, multimodal transportation access and safety, stakeholder coordination, and public outreach
- Supporting the coordination of activities with city governments, independent school districts, transit agencies, developers, civic associations, consultants, and the public on land use-transportation projects
- Preparing correspondence, technical reports, and other documents
- Assisting with preparation of presentation materials and delivering oral presentations
- Assisting in the development of and coordination with a School Coordination Regional Working Group (e.g., identifying stakeholders, assisting with conducting meetings and outreach events, and creating announcements and presentation materials)
- Creating and maintaining databases related to land-use transportation data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Microsoft Excel, and Access software
- Conducting research and data collection
- Providing assistance in the management of consultant contracts
- Creating and maintaining project schedules
- Creating detailed project maps
- Assisting with grant writing and reporting
- Creating 2-d and 3-d graphics using graphic design software

- Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree in an analytical, quantitative methods field such as urban/transportation planning, economic development, design, landscape architecture, or related field
One year or less of job-related experience
- Experience using Geographic Information Systems
- Experience working with independent school districts, local governments, multiple stakeholders, and public desired
- Experience with design software a plus

Minimum of $36,976.00 annually
