Planner II

The purpose of this position is to support departmental activities.

HIRING RANGE: $43,627-$57,564

 Essential Functions:
Coordinates the Town's bicycle and pedestrian planning activities.

Develops and maintains land use data and projections used in development of regional transportation plans.

Work EnvironmentThe work is typically performed in an office environment and in the field.
 Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job

Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of planning
  • Zoning/subdivision regulations
  • Land use and inspection
  • Transportation planning
  • Affordable housing
  • Related regulations
  • Relevant federal, state, and local laws
Ability to:
  • Familiarity or ability to quickly learn Metropolitan Planning Organization planning procedures and working knowledge or ability to quickly learn
    Community Viz, Adobe Creative Suite and understanding of transportation modeling.
  • Solve problems and make sound decisions; performing mathematical calculations
  • Maintain accurate financial records and preparing reportsUtilize a personal computer and various word processing and database software applications
  • Utilize such office equipment as a typewriter, calculator, copier, and facsimile machine
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, and supervisors
  • Read and interpret ordinances, statutes, plans, maps, blueprints, etc.
  • Read and understand development and planning related documents, site plans, other development related materials, technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents
  • Develop and communicate complex presentations in a public setting
  • Plan, organize, supervise, and carry out semi-complex research projects effectively and simultaneously
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Model behavior that is consistent with our values of RESPECT
Education
A Bachelors Degree in Planning or related field

Experience
Two years of experience working in Planning or a related field
 
Certifications
Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license North Carolina issued by the state of NC and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites is required
