GIS Programmer Analyst II

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Programmer/Analyst II position is expected to develop GIS solutions for a diverse array of end users within a multi-disciplinary academic research environment.

The individual's key responsibilities/functions will involve working with the CISR staff to acquire, import, translate, modify, and create spatial data using the industry standard geodatabase; develop custom publication quality cartographic products, perform advanced spatial analyses, and program custom spatial toolsets for use in ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS for Server 10+; develop GIS automation routines in support of multiple research projects/contracts; and assist in the management and implementation of an ESRI ArcSDE/MS SQL Server database.    
Qualifications / Competencies    Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, or related field or equivalent combination of training experience.

Experience in the application of tools for geospatial data processing, understanding of GIS tools and statistics for spatial analysis, and cartographic map production in a multi-disciplinary professional environment.

Intermediate knowledge of raster and vector-based spatial analysis, digital terrain analysis, hydrologic modeling, cost distance modeling, and spatial interpolation.

Demonstrated skills in program scripting using Python (arcpy) and the ESRI Model Builder.

Intermediate experience in data production, digitization, and editing using ArcGIS 10+ including advanced features of the geodatabase such as topology, subtypes, and attribute domains.

Experience in geodatabase design, data development, data conversion, data migration, and data extraction. Knowledge of administering (permissions, versioning, replication, connections) an enterprise geodatabase using ESRI ArcSDE.

Intermediate experience with creating high quality cartographic map products for publication using ArcGIS, including advanced cartographic representations, custom effects and styles, text annotation, and map automation using data driven pages.

Demonstrated knowledge of cartographic design principles including color and symbology theory, map projections, thematic and statistical mapping, topographic and reference mapping, display hierarchies, typography, and data generation.

Proficient in the use of graphic design software necessary for cartographic and graphic, such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat.

Demonstrated experience with managing multiple ongoing projects while successfully completing work assignments.

Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to explain complex technical and spatial concepts/tasks in understandable terms.
