Associate Director, GIS and Space Management

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for University Planning, the Associate Director for GIS and Space Management will provide leadership for the development and organization of the realigned GIS and Space Management unit within the Facilities Department. The Associate Director will work closely with the Assistant Vice President in the development and updating of the mission and goals for the unit. Additionally, this position will provide oversight to departmental faculty/staff and make recommendations to the Assistant Vice President regarding strategic initiatives intended to build and maintain a robust database of campus facility information (buildings, grounds and infrastructure), to include space and utilization data, that will be accessible by the university community for a variety of purposes. The Associate Director will collaborate with university partners to develop a needs assessment and establish priorities for the Facilities GIS and Space database and to disseminate information as appropriate. This position, in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President and others as appropriate, will oversee the creation, adoption, and management of a comprehensive space management policy to efficiently and effectively manage the analysis, assignment, and utilization of physical space on the university campus. The Associate Director will ensure that the GIS and Space database provides data necessary to inform long range planning decisions for the physical campus, and provide a critical component in establishing priorities for the university’s Capital Six Year Plan. Additionally, the Associate Director will provide supervision to a team of faculty and staff representing a variety of disciplines (e.g., surveyors, technicians, analysts, planners, etc.), and will be responsible for developing and managing a fiscal budget to achieve the mission and goals of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

- Advanced degree in Geography, Natural Science, Business Analysis, Computer Science, Engineering, Architecture, Planning or related field, or training and experience equivalent to an advanced degree.
- Significant practical GIS and/or space management experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Space Management and/or core geospatial abilities and knowledge.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills (particularly the ability to work with and influence others) and excellent communication skills.
- Must have the ability to prepare plans and reports utilizing architectural or graphic programming and Microsoft Office Suites.
- Proficient skills with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, Autodesk, ESRI, and Enterprise Data Systems.
- Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

- ESRI certification, GISP, PE, or other professional certification and/or license
- Considerable years of experience with Space Management and/or GIS within a Higher Education environment.
- Proficient in use of ArcGIS and ArcGIS extensions (3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst, Publisher, etc.).
- Experience with Laserfische and workflow management systems.
- Expertise in data gathering and analysis, including statistics and geostatistics
- Experience in Geospatial application development
- Experience in Geospatial systems and/or programming
- Previous experience in leading creative thinking about geospatial technology opportunities.
