Program Director- Professional Program in GIS Development

Degree and area of specialization:

Master's Degree in GIScience or related fields required. PhD preferred.
   
   

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Applicant should be trained broadly in the area of GIScience (including cartography and visualization) with technical skills and experience in computer programming and emerging technologies in GIScience.

Principal duties:

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, ADMINISTRATION AND OUTREACH

Facilitate and coordinate the course/program development and approval process (6%)

Develop policy and procedures to facilitate offering of the program to nontraditional students (8%).

Actively market the program and recruit students (22%)

Provide academic advising and student support services (22%)

Manage program revenue and provide financial reports to the department (6%).

Monitor the trends in GIScience and related professions (6%)

Work with faculty to update/revise the program as needed (6%)

Manage the program assessment and program student databases (6%)

Work with professionals in GIScience and related fields to connect the students with GIScience faculty for practicums. (12%).

Other duties as necessary to successfully implement the program (6%)

The individual hired into this position will also have teaching responsibilities under a PVL waiver Lecturer appointment.

Lecturer Duties include:

Teaching three online courses from the program offerings per year: Geography 378 (Geocomputing) in Fall, Geography 574 (Spatial Database) in Spring, and Geography 570 (Capstone in GIS) in Summer.
