University of Colorado

Geography GIS and Spatial Analysis Instructor

Posting Description

The Department of Geography at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time instructor position in Geographic Information Science and Spatial Analysis, beginning in August 2015. The initial contract is for two years, with possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Geography, Geomatics, GIScience or a related field.

We seek an instructor to teach three different courses: a sophomore level course that involves map reading and interpretation, online sources of spatial data, and basic mapping skills such as GPS, Google Maps, etc.; a junior level technical course on Map Design and Visualization in a GIS environment; and a course introducing basic statistics (descriptive statistics, basic inferential tests, simple correlation and regression). All three courses are 4-credit courses with lecture and lab sections. The distribution of these courses will be decided in collaboration with other GIS/statistics faculty.

The instructor will additionally coordinate a new undergraduate certificate in GIS and Computational Science for which two of these courses are core requirements. Interest in developing basic mapping and statistical analysis skills is high among students across the College of Arts & Sciences and campus as a whole. The successful candidate is expected to communicate effectively with students, faculty and undergraduate advisors in Geography, Computer Science, and across the College of Arts & Sciences.

Applications are accepted electronically at https://www.jobsatcu.com, posting F02377 and should include an application cover letter, a CV, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. Also provide the names and e-mail addresses of three professional references. Letters of reference will be requested by the department through Jobs at CU. Review of applications will begin on May 15, 2015 and will continue until the position is filled.
