Founded in 1856, University of Maryland, College Park is the flagship institution in the University System of Maryland. Our 1,250-acre College Park campus is just minutes away from Washington, D.C., and the nexus of the nation’s legislative, executive, and judicial centers of power. This unique proximity to business and technology leaders, federal departments and agencies, and a myriad of research entities, embassies, think tanks, cultural centers, and non-profit organizations is simply unparalleled. Synergistic opportunities for our faculty and students abound and are virtually limitless in the nation’s capital and surrounding areas. The University is committed to attracting and retaining outstanding and diverse faculty and staff that will enhance our stature of preeminence in our three missions of teaching, scholarship, and full engagement in our community, the state of Maryland, and in the world.

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland (College Park) Department of Geographical Sciences has established a Center for Geospatial Information Science: an exciting initiative designed to provide state-of-the-art instruction and research experiences at the cutting edge of geographic information science, technology, and applications. The Center is uniquely positioned in the hub of the D.C. area geospatial technology industry, with exceptional connections to local agencies, companies, and start-ups. As part of this Center initiative, the Department invites applications for a Lecturer position. Salary and benefits are highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We are seeking an outstanding candidate with a track record of research and teaching in practical or technical applications at the intersections of GIS and geospatial intelligence. The teaching program will consist of basic and advanced courses in GIS as well as short courses in aspects of GI Science tailored to different disciplines or applications areas. We are particularly interested in candidates with applied interests in geodemographics and geo-marketing, business geographics and logistics, big data analysis, cyberspaces and code/spaces, and location-aware computing.

Applications should include a personal statement of background and experience relevant to the position, including research, teaching and service activities, a signed, dated Curriculum Vitae, reprints of selected peer-reviewed publications, and names and addresses (including e-mail) of 3-5 references.
