The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Department of Geography

Tenure-Track Position in Geography

The Department of Geography at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel invites applications for a tenure-track position in geography, starting July 1, 2016.

As a faculty member of the Geography Department the applicant will join an outstanding

department with a strong tradition of excellence in research, as well as teaching and public

involvement. The appointment at the Hebrew University allows multiple opportunities to

collaborate with colleagues from social sciences, natural sciences and the humanities, and to engage with the complex city of Jerusalem. We are open to candidates in any field of geography. We are especially looking for excellent candidates in the fields of political, environmental, cultural, historical and behavioral geography; urban planning theory and policy; geoinformatics; and the bridge between physical and human geography.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree at the time of hire; demonstrate an active research program, indicating the potential for outstanding scholarship. The person hired will teach introductory and advanced courses in Geography and in areas of their specialization. He/she will also be expected to supervise students at the Masters and PhD level and to contribute to departmental and university service. Ability to teach in Hebrew is required (in exceptional cases, successful candidates will be expected to teach courses in Hebrew within a few years of their arrival).

Appointment procedures will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Hebrew University and are subject to the approval of the university authorities. The university is not obliged to appoint any of the candidates who apply for the position.
