Transportation Planner

Loudoun County's Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure is currently seeking a talented, highly-motivated individual to fill the position of Transportation Planner. This position focuses on long-range transit and related pedestrian infrastructure and operational planning, as well as compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and serving the needs of all citizens that utilize the Loudoun County Transit System. These responsibilities will be managed by: Reviewing land development applications and providing accurate and concise written transportation comments for use by staff, the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors; serving as the subject matter expert on transit and related pedestrian infrastructure projects; serving as the department’s liaison to disability and senior service organizations; and providing prompt, informative and courteous customer service to inquiries received from citizens, the development community, and other staff members. The position works closely with various County departments, County Administration, and the Board of Supervisors on matters pertaining to transit and paratransit related issues and projects. The successful candidate should be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills, as well as professional verbal and written communication skills, and also possess the ability the share innovative ideas, creative problem solving, and awareness of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices related to transit and paratransit planning.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Requies any combination of education or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering or related field and three years directly related experience. Federal, state or local government experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid driver's license is required. Occasional attendance at night meetings as required. This position occasionally requires leaving the office environment and walking project sites. Exposure to inclement weather while in the field is a possibility. The position also requires flexibility to be present on park and ride lots during early morning hours as needed for meetings or special events/circumstances. AICP or PE certification preferred.
