Assistant Professor of Regional Economic Development

The School of Economics at the University of Maine is seeking an Assistant Professor of regional (i.e., state and local) economic development.  This is a full-time, tenure-track position with an expected initial appointment of 50% teaching and 50% research.  

Responsibilities include conducting and disseminating original research related to regional economic development, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and advising and mentoring students. The position also involves working on projects—often as part of a team including researchers and stakeholders—that address important state and local economic development issues.

Required: a Ph.D. in economics, agricultural/applied economics, economic geography, public policy, regional/urban planning, or a closely related field; interest in working on policy-relevant, applied research projects; proficient in the use of econometric/statistical methods and/or regional economic impact models; excellent communication skills appropriate for technical and non-technical audiences; and a commitment to professional development, collegiality, public service and high quality teaching.

 

Preferred: Established record or potential for: funding, designing and managing research projects; conducting regional economic analysis; publishing in high quality economic and regional science journals; and teaching graduate and undergraduate economics courses.

The University, located in Orono, ME, is the largest campus of the UMaine System, with an enrollment of nearly 12,000 students and offers more than 100 programs of graduate study.
