The University of Southern MississippiGIS/Remote Sensing AnalystThis position is responsible for the design, development, implementation, maintenance and documentation of leading-edge geospatial information technology solutions for the Gulf Coast Geospatial Center.
Duties and Responsibilities: Adheres to University and department policies, procedures and regulations Responsibilities will require an innate ability to work in both a team environment and independently in order to accomplish the following objectives: analyze large and complex data sets in the application of GIS and remote sensing technology to test and evaluate emerging applications and effectively articulate technical aspects of work to diverse groups of scientists at local, national and international meetings, as required
Minimum Qualifications: Advanced degree in geography or related field Experience with satellite remote sensing data Must complete a routine background check Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of working experience with satellite data sets and image processing Familiarity with existing algorithms and experience in algorithm development Experience with collection and analysis of optics (i.e. remote sensing reflectance) for validation of satellite products Computational knowledge of IDL, MATLAB, ESRI, ENVI, C-programming or other data processing tools Ability to work in a team environment with military, DOD civilians and contractors Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills Possession of excellent technical writing and briefing skills Capable of quickly learning complex instrumentation with little or no guidance
