DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Planning and Development Department seeks a highly motivated individual to provide staff support to the City of Houston citizens, developers, engineers, land planners and engineers navigating the City's development process. Conducts regulatory review of development proposals. Reviews site plans and development plats for compliance with the City's subdivision, parking and landscaping regulations. Collect data/information from all relevant sources, including field/site visits. Provides assistance to the public. Interacts directly with developers, engineers, surveyors, architects officials in other City of Houston departments. Works in a team environment. WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable; Requires stooping or bending. Occasional lifting, such as three or four reams of paper or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: |
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Master's degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS No experience is required. Professional planning experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2). |
PREFERENCES: |
PREFERENCES Preference shall be given to applicants who demonstrate strong interest in and be comfortable interpreting and applying regulations. Strong analytical and communication skills, proficient in reading plans and surveys, experience working with the public/clients/team to resolve problems, ability to juggle multiple priorities is highly preferred. **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. |
