Planner

Loudoun County is seeking qualified applicants to work in an exciting, dynamic, innovative, and progressive Department of Planning and Zoning. The Department needs several Planners/Project Managers to coordinate the review of legislative land development applications and support strategic and comprehensive planning efforts. Duties will include coordinating with other agencies, mediating solutions between staff and applicants, preparing staff reports, presenting staff's position in public hearings and resolving issues in committee settings before the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. Applicant must exhibit excellent writing, presentation and analytical skills; the ability to communicate effectively with staff, applicants and the public, as well as elected and appointed officials; the ability to meet deadlines and maintain product quality while managing multiple assignments; and the ability to review and critique plans to produce higher quality developments through site design best practices. Applicant must have a practical knowledge of urban design principles, zoning, transportation, and open space planning.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, architecture, land use planning, or related field and three (3) years of professional land use planning or urban design experience. Applicants who have any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, architecture, land use planning, or related field and two (2) years of professional experience in land use planning or urban design, may be considered for this position at a lower level. Preference may be given to applicants experienced in landscape architecture, architecture, and/or urban design. AICP Certification is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Experience in Arcinfo/Arcview GIS software in UNIX environment is desired. Attendance at night meetings is expected.
