Position Summary |
The Department of Geography at Central Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Geography. Appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor.
We seek a motivated, broadly trained human geographer with expertise in Geographic Education.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with the Michigan Geographic Alliance and to play a significant role in teaching, advising and assessment within the Geographic and Social Science Education Programs. Those with demonstrated expertise beyond the U.S. and Canada are especially encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications |
Ph.D in Geography or closely-related field at the time of appointment; demonstrated effective communication skills; previous teaching experience; evidence of publication; prior success in obtaining, or the demonstrated potential to obtain, external funding; a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and research.

Preferred Qualifications |
Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience working with The National Geographic Network of Geography Education Alliances, online course development and distance learning pedagogy, and expertise that complements existing CMU faculty and programs in Human Geography and Geographic Education.

The Department of Geography at CMU offers a B.S. and B.A. (major and minor) in Geography, B.S. and B.A. in Environmental Studies, M.S. in Geographic Information Sciences as well as Geography minors and majors for teacher education students.
