Indiana University Bloomington

Economic Research Analyst, Kelley School of Business

Job Summary: Conducts analyses of economic and demographic data to provide insight into the economies of Indiana, its regions and communities, and the nation as a whole. Researches the education and training requirements of occupations in order to assess the educational program needs for the workforce of the future and estimate the amount of time and resources required to transition from one occupation to another. Upgrades the Innovation Index by collaborating on conceptualization, data capture, literature review, development and index calculations.

Develops and improves calculation algorithms to generate complete employment, wage, occupation count and GDP data by industry and industry cluster. Writes computer programs in STATA and R to generate IBRC "no-holes" estimates of the following: covered employment and wages, derived from QCEW data, for detailed NAICS industries for any multi-county user-selected region; and county employment by occupation, reformulating the occupation clusters using current O*NET categories.

Continues development of “Virtual Career Counselor” web-tool to estimate the time-to-transition from one occupation to another; and continues developing labor market information data and systems. Conducts employment dynamics analysis using the longitudinal employment data base; and performs statistical analysis, including analysis of variance, multiple and logistic regression, cluster analysis, and stratified sampling. Forecasts population, employment, incomes, workforce characteristics, and similar economic variables using data from various federal and state agencies and other relevant sources.

Analyzes trends in demographic and economic indicators over time and for various geographic areas; conducts economic impact analyses and economic modeling studies; and presents conclusions and implications of analyses clearly in written and oral formats. Collaborates effectively with IBRC staff in the configuration and effective use of internal databases of economic indicators and in the design and implementation of large projects involving economic/demographic/social data and analysis.
