Central Michigan UniversityGIS DATA SPECIALISTPosition Summary The Geographic Information Science (GIS) Data Specialist works with the princip le investigators of the MDEQ Decision Support Tool grant to create and implemen t a GIS-based decision support tool for Great Lakes wetlands.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biology, geography or related field. 1 year of related research experience. Experience with ArcGIS including Spatial Analyst and Editing Shapefiles. Experience with Air Photo Interpretation and LiDAR Analysis. Research experience with wetland ecosystems. Excellent computer skills. Demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment. Possess outstanding organizational skills. Ability to initiate and complete tasks independently. Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive attitud e. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Duties & Responsibilities Modifies existing shapefiles based on interpretation of remote sensing product s. Identifies, acquires, preprocesses and analyzes GIS data. Spatial and statistical analysis using land use, population, infrastructure an d biological data. Presentation of research at local and regional meetings. Supervises research assistants. Organizes and documents all software and data on the GIS server with appropria te documentation. Assists with other duties related to the project.
